What it costs, how long the commute takes, and who Mission suits.
The Mission has more early-stage founders per block than anywhere else in the city, built around Valencia Street cafes and two BART stations. It's loud and crowded on weekends, and still the cheapest way to live near other builders.

Who Mission suits
Founders who want cafes to work from, like Ritual Coffee Roasters and Four Barrel on Valencia, plus one BART stop to SoMa. Lots of sublets and shared flats if you're testing the city for a few months.
Downsides of living in Mission
Street conditions change block to block, especially near 16th and Mission BART. Weekend bar noise on Valencia and Mission Street. Never leave a laptop visible in a parked car.
